NZ Mountain Bike Orienteering team is just back from winning the Trans
Tasman Challenge against Australia at Mt Gambier, South Australia.
It was a fantastic team win by 13-8 to NZ. We had 3 races and 7 categories to count the M/W open, 40's, 50' and M60
The star was Marquita Gelderman of Helensville who was 4th at the world
Champs in Poland last year, and is ranked 7th in the world who
dominated the 3 open womens races.
Stu Lynch of AR team Orion was also super impressive with two 2nds and
a close 4th with two of those placings behind the world No.1 Adrian
Jackson of Melbourne.
Team manager Dianne Michels won all three of the womens 40 grade, and
Pete Swanson (M40) and Michael Wood (M60) who pioneered MTBO in NZ won
2 races each.
MTBO is a growing sport in NZ, and is very attractive to adventure
racers who need to read maps while mountainbiking, but is ideal for
families and anyone who rides a bike, as the navigation is all on
tracks.
