You
can't beat Wellington on a good day! The RaboPlus Big
Coast 2-day mountain bike event kicks off this Saturday and covers
around 100kms of the Wellington region's most spectacular and otherwise
not available
trails
.., from the Rimutaka Rail Trail through tunnels and gully's, to
finish in Eastbourne on Sunday.
The RaboPlus Big Coast fits neatly in the
very healthy mountain bike events market in New Zealand - a multi day mountain
bike ride aimed at families - a perfect opportunity for MTB enthusiasts to
share their love (and the rare weekend!) with their family and mates!
All meals are provided, thanks to the
Featherston and Wainuiomata Lions clubs, local Scout groups, and the NZ
Resilience Trust. On Saturday night there will be a fantastic BBQ meal,
massages for sore muscles, a bar for adults, and Featherston band Deaf Lemon
will make sure you have your dancing shoes on. Greg & Kieran from BikeNZ
will be leading the charge for Frisbee, cricket and volleyball challenges!
Friends and family can join riders at the camp for $30, including dinner and
entertainment.
The trails are that perfect mix of doable
for the beginner, and challenging for those wanting to test themselves, but you
will have to be moderately fit, covering 50km's both days. All meals and
equipment transport are provided - it really couldn't be easier to get out and
enjoy the ride! Remember it's not a race, and no times will be recorded.
There will be heaps of prizes to give out
thanks to Avanti-Plus Lower Hutt and Ground Effect. Three recreational mountain
bikes will be drawn at the event, and Ground Effect will be kitting some lucky
winners in $2000 worth of their awesome gear!
Riders can sign-up online until 12pm
Friday at www.bikenz.org.nz/bigcoast/.
