Power to the Podium programme is now into it's next stage, with
19 female cyclist selected from over 100 applications. The
objective of the programme is to identifying and selecting female
athletes
for a development programme. The aim is to at least equal the
men's track cycling team achievement of securing two medals at the
Beijing Olympics.
Andy Reid, Manager BikeNZ Performance Programme Manager gives an update.
"The following women have been selected for phase 2 of the Power to the
Podium Programme. It was very tough to shortlist from the 100
high quality applications that we received. These athletes, from a
variety of sporting backgrounds, will be tested between now and the
19th of November with the best coming to the ILT Velodrome in
Invercargill for a training camp from the 13th to the 18th of December."
