Southern Lakes Multisport Club Adventure Race

The countdown is on for the start of the Southern Lakes Multisport Club Adventure Race at midnight tonight (Friday 17th Nov 2017)  in Central Otago.

The 24 hour and 12-hour adventure race has attracted record racing numbers with approximately 40 teams entered in the two and four-person categories.

Southern Lakes Multisport Club President Blake Luff says the club aims to keep grassroots racing alive by creating exciting events that challenge local competitors to give multisport a go.

“ This weekends adventure race includes biking, trekking, kayaking, abseiling and of course quite a bit of navigation. The teams don’t know where they will be racing until we get underway but the general areas are through Central Otago high country and quite a lot of private land that most people don’t have access to.”

The race kicks off in full darkness tonight from the Galloway Clay Target Club in Alexandra. The 24-hour course is set so that the fastest teams should be able to complete in around 14-16 hours. The 12-hour competitors will race during set hours on Saturday.

" We expect the first teams will cross the finish line at the Clay Target Club sometime around midday tomorrow (Saturday 18th) and it would be great to see friends and supporters there to welcome them home,” says Blake.

The Southern Lakes Multisport Club Adventure Race is the third qualifying event in the new A1 NZ Adventure Racing series.  For more information on the A1 NZ Series go to
