Riding Into Town!

After the successful introduction of the Bike Film Night ‘Feature Series’ movie showings, Curator and ‘Film Pedlar’ Brett Cotter is thrilled to bring to cycling fans ‘ONE DAY AHEAD’, a Feature length New Zealand documentary that follows eight Kiwis riding the Tour De France one day ahead of the actual race in 2018.

“It is an absolute privilege to showcase this inspiring documentary that covers these riders’ memorable journey. This movie personifies how it’s so much more than just riding a bike and will be thoroughly enjoyed by our pedal patrons” says Cotter.

One extraordinary adventure for 8 Kiwis. Taking the challenge of a lifetime, as the first New Zealand team to ride all 21 stages of the Tour De France, one day ahead of the actual race in July 2018; all in support of the Mental Health Foundation.

Considered the toughest sporting event in the world, led and supported by Jonathan Douglas and coached by Olympic silver medallist and ex-professional Tour De France rider Hayden Roulston, the group’s mission was to raise money and awareness for the Mental Health Foundation by cycling every stage of the 2018 Tour de France. The response was overwhelming from the New Zealand public and well over $72,000 was raised for the Foundation.

This is our story of eight ordinary kiwi blokes, who didn’t know each other prior to this epic adventure, united by the joy of riding bikes, raising funds for the Mental Health Foundation and striving to achieve something that was beyond each of our wildest dreams prior to the roll call from Rouleur Bike Tours” says Mike Conza, Team NZ TdF Member. “The documentary itself is a microcosm of life compressed into 21 stages with the highs and lows of human emotion as we bond as a team to attempt to finish one of the world’s toughest cycle races. I’m forever grateful for this opportunity and if I have one message to audiences it is chase your dreams.  What seems impossible - with a lot of focus and tenacity can become reality.”

The Global and New Zealand Film Premiere is on Friday 25th January at 7pm, as part of the exciting Three Peaks RIDE New Zealand's Cycling Festival programme, screening at the St. Peter’s Auditorium in Cambridge and then visits Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in February and March.
